    Fancy colored Drakens

*** Posted by Kim Nielsen ***
Three different pic's shows a "danish flag-Draken" a "ribbon wound-Draken" and a red Draken with a golden dragon on the belly surface.
I really misses the stories behind these fancy coloured Drakens on Your site!

Yep, those Drakens do look interesting John and I am sure that there is an interesting story behind them. We understand that you are busy John so dont worry too much, just make additions when you feel you want to.

I have been a kind of tricking, while I already knew the story around the "danish flag Draken"!
Since this, i'll here start up the explanations:
The National coloured Draken was a tribute to the homecoming national soccer team, when arriving from the World-cup in Mexico (year?). Having kissed the finals, this was the first ewer major result in the world cup for the danish national soccer team, and by the homecoming the team was celebrated by the whole country.
However, the RDAF was the very first to congratulate the team by intercepting their flight over the North sea for a fly by, with the national coloured Draken!
I think the story (as well the ones for the other fancy Drakens?) gives a sign of a fighter-group with a plenty of "go". An unthinkable situation today??

Are we dealing with an incarnated "SPADE" fan here ? (Maybe an old crewchief) :o)

    Unthinkable today ???????
The spirit is still high in the squadrons & the Danish Airforce is writing history these days. Funny insidents like the ones described above has also occured in the f16 days (escort with "Klaphat" just to mention
    one).

If "SPADE" is for Draken You might be right, but I'm just another danish avi.freak! With the age of 40 I've used most of my youth with bending my neck backwards after the destinctive howl of the Starfighters, enjoyning the "humpty dumpty"- moves of the F 100's laying eggs on the clear blue sky by using the burner during dogfight excercises and loving the sight of the Saab double-delta in the air!
Related to my "disbelieving" to the SQ's: there is a fine line between my expression "GO", and Your defence of "the spirit" of today!
Even though my avi. interrest and joy by the European soccerchampionship in '92 (in between i've investigated the "mexico W C" to be in '86!!), I'm not able to remember the "klaphat" story, and are together with Rapier looking foreward to hear (refresh?) it.
I remember Rapier as canadian(?), boy You have got yourself in trouble by mention the "klaphat": I cant see how I would explain what the word covers ;o)

It must have been nice with all those jets flying around. Unfortunately we only have a fraction of those today.
The "Klaphat" insident actually happened after Denmark won the European soccerchampionship in '92 & the soccerteam was escorted home by F-16s with the pilots wearing "Klaphats".
You are right about me beíng in trouble when I have to explain what a "Klaphat" is, but fortunately I managed to find a picture on the net. But just a short description:

A "Klaphat" is a hat in the Danish colors (Red & White), which have two hands sticking out in the front. By pulling a string you can actually make the hands clap.
